HOW DO I GET INVITED TO BE A MEMBER OF NHS?
THE INDUCTION IS OVER - NOW WHAT DO I DO?
- In February, all Sophomores and Juniors who have a qualifying GPA will be given a letter informing them of their candidacy for NHS. Included with the letter will be an application packet. The application and Faculty Council determine if you will be accepted, or not, into NHS. You must fully demonstrate your activity in the three pillars of Leadership, Service, and Character, turn in your completed application on time, and not have a disciplinary or criminal record to be accepted.
- A qualifying GPA is a cumulative GPA of 9.3500 or higher. Cumulative means your combined GPA of your freshman and first semester of sophomore year scores. Juniors: this would be freshman, sophomore, and 1st semester of Junior year. Your school counselor will be able to tell you your cumulative GPA.
- All names are removed from the applications and coded with a number for a non-biased review of the completed application. The application will be presented to, and reviewed by, the Faculty Council. Using a rubric, they determine whether or not membership will be granted; the process can take 2-4 weeks. During the selection process, advisors will be present to answer questions; however, they do not determine who is eligible or meets the requirements for membership.
- In March, letters will be released to applicants notifying them of their selection or non-selection into NHS. Students who receive a selection letter MUST be signed by the candidate and their parent or guardian to acknowledge and accept entrance into NHS. There is a due date for this. If this step is skipped or late, membership will be denied. The letter will include the date for the Induction Ceremony. April is the typical month we have our induction. It is mandatory. Failure to attend will disqualify the member from joining NHS.
